Harry van der Veen

Harry van der Veen

I am Harry, 39 years old and live in Marum, Groningen. I am a spontaneous and reliable person with a sense of humor. I am a real bon vivant and you can really rely on me. My hobbies are running, doing fun things with my family and friends, kickboxing and occasionally watching a soccer game. I am working as a German trader for Moving Spirits, so I am responsible for the German speaking part of the world.

What characterizes your role at work?

I think I’m a real organizer and an entrepreneurial type. It’s quite difficult because I come from a very different industry, logistics. In my previous job I also did a lot of organizing and was in direct contact with customers.

I like the overall picture, nice and versatile. So from purchasing to organizing logistics to all the customer contact. I think I can find my niche there.

What do you consider a challenge at work?

I find it challenging to help the customer get everything to the right place at the right time. I just want things to run smoothly. If there are problems, I want to think proactively with the customers to solve the problem and build a relationship with them.

So, the challenge for me is to make the process as pleasant as possible. But I am someone who jumps into the deep end, I am open to new challenges. No challenge is too big.

Name one thing you’re sure most people don’t know about you

My real name is Harm. Hardly anyone knows that about me. Everyone knows me as Harry.

What do you contribute to the team?

Good question. I think I’m a real team player. I’m reliable and always open for a conversation. I am very adaptable to people’s needs, which in my opinion is also the reason why people always share a lot with me. My hope is that I will also be seen as a social co-worker, someone people can talk to.

How do you relax on the weekend?

The way I relax on the weekend is by running, if I run about 10 kilometers with music in my ears, that is total relaxation for me. Not too fast, just a nice run. Taking the dog for a walk in the woods is also something that I really enjoy doing.

What is a quote that helps you move forward in life?

I always say enjoy life. That’s the most important thing. I’m not someone who dwells on things for a long time. It’s just important to enjoy the moment and to enjoy the little things, to always stay strong.

Beer, wine or spirits?

Beer! No doubt about it. Only Heineken, original Dutch beer. I only drink on weekends, I’m really a social drinker.

Which country would you like to visit and why?

I think I would choose Costa Rica or Curacao. Both for the nature and the climate. I would choose Curacao for the beach and adventure. Costa Rica seems to be very beautiful for the nature, lots of exotic animals, rain forests and tropical beaches.

What’s on your bucket list?

I don’t really have much to wish for. I don’t have anything that makes me say: I really have to do this! Maybe bungee jumping from a great height.

What did you want to become when you were younger?

I wanted to join the military. The adventure and the always surviving action. At a certain point you realize you’re away from home a lot and it’s risky, so I prefer the safe way.
