History of Royal De Kuyper
As a wholesaler of De Kuyper we are highly interested in the brands that we supply to our customers.
You can’t say De Kuyper without saying cocktails in the same sentence. They are the largest supplier of cocktail liqueurs in the world with an annual turnover of 60+ million bottles. They were founded in 1695 by Petrus de Kuyper. Fun fact: the current owners are still descendants of the founder.
During the old days, De Kuyper focused mainly on the export to the English market (including its colonies). They did not focus on liqueurs during these days. Their only product at that time was the Dutch spirit jenever.
In 1910 a new factory was being built in the Dutch town of Schiedam. It did not take long before the production of the now well known liqueurs started. Fresh herbs, fruits and spices were being put in alcohol in order to extract its flavors into the drinks. The same was done with coffee, cacao, vanilla and cinnamon. During the distillation process some of these raw materials were being put in the kettle to add extra flavors.
At their 300th anniversary in 1995 they received the predicate Royal. The name was changed to Royal De Kuyper.
Another fun fact: De Kuyper is a 100% family business and is currently the 6th oldest family business of the Netherlands!
