As a Clase Azul wholesale, we are interested in the story behind the brand. While other brands have been around for centuries, Clase Azul tequilas have only recently been developed. The story begins in 1997, when founder Arturo Lomeli’s dream was to share the magic of Mexican culture with the world. The heart of production is in Jesús María, Jalisco, Mexico, where the agave plants are harvested and the tequila is distilled.
The brand is known as a premium tequila brand that specialises in handmade, hand-painted ceramic bottles. Clase Azul reposado tequila’s are known for their smoothness, complexity and premium quality. Although the brand is primarily known for its tequila, the company has also expanded into other categories, including an ultra-premium rum.
Production of Clase Azul Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico
Clase Azul liquor is produced in the region of Jalisco, famous for its tequila production. This is where the blue agave is harvested. The harvested agave piñas (the core of the agave plant) are traditionally steamed in a brick oven to ferment. After cooking, the agave piñas are crushed and the juice (called mosto) is extracted. The mosto is then transferred to fermentation vats where natural yeasts convert the sugars into alcohol. This process usually takes several days.
The fermented liquid, called pulque, is distilled in copper stills to produce tequila. Depending on the type of tequila produced (Clase Azul Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, Extra Añejo), the tequila may be aged in oak barrels. It is then blended and bottled.
Different varieties of tequilas available from Clase Azul
Clase Azul is best known for its range of tequilas, which include different maturation periods and flavor profiles. Here are some of the main variants in Clase Azul’s range:
Clase Azul Plata (Blanco): This is the unripened variant of Clase Azul Tequila. It is usually characterised by fresh agave flavours.
Clase Azul Reposado: This Tequila has a shorter aging period, usually between two months and a year. This results in a smoother, more rounded flavour with subtle wood notes from the barrel.
Clase Azul Añejo: Añejo tequilas are aged longer, usually between one and three years. This produces a richer, more complex tequila with more pronounced wood and vanilla flavours.
Clase Azul Ultra (Extra Añejo): This is the most mature variety, with an aging period of more than three years. Extra Añejo tequilas have a deeper amber colour and often contain complex layers of dried fruit, chocolate and oak flavours.
