History of Martini

The story of this brand starts in Turin, 1863. Three men, named Martini, Sola and Rossi took over a small distillery in the town of Pessione. By combining a unique blend of wines, herbs and spices, the iconic Rosso was born. This drink was instantly a hit throughout the entire country. The three men continued their effort and the brand started to increase in popularity.
After the Sola family was bought out in 1879, the company officially changed its name to Martini & Rossi. Over the years, the business and their drinks grew in popularity. An important factor was the growing popularity of cocktails. Many films from all over the world used uniquely crafted cocktails. A famous example is James Bond’s ‘Martini, shaken; not stirred’.
The business stayed within the family, although the management changed a number of times by different grandsons of Rossi. This family business stopped in 1993 when they merged with Bacardi.
