History of Dictador

The story begins with Severo Arango y Ferro, a Spanish immigrant who arrived in Colombia in the late 18th century. His nickname “Dictador”, came from his reputation as a strong and authoritative figure. He discovered rum and soon fell in love with the drink. He decided to become a merchant of exotic sugar cane distillates.
The origins of Dictador rum (read more at Wikipedia) date back to 1913 in Colombia. The family founded Destilería Colombiana, a distillery in the heart of Colombia’s Caribbean region. One of the key factors that sets Dictador rum apart is the aging process.
Over the years, Dictador rum has become synonymous with premium quality and craftsmanship. Each expression is carefully crafted and pays homage to the brand’s heritage and commitment to excellence. Nowadays, Dictador continues to innovate and expand its range with new expressions and limited editions.
Dictador Rum wholesale: The solera system
Before Dictador Rum reaches the shelves of your liquor store, there are several steps in the production process.
It all starts with the harvesting of the sugar cane. Due to its geographical location, Colombia is one of the top three sugar cane producers in the world, guaranteeing harvests of both high quality and quantity. Once the sugar cane has been converted into juice, it is fermented. This produces a liquid that already contains alcohol. Distillation then takes place. Dictador rum uses a combination of traditional pot stills and modern continuous column stills, depending on the specific expression being produced. Distillation plays a crucial role in shaping the character of the rum.
The next step, which gives Dictador its distinctive flavor, is the aging process. The rum is matured in a variety of casks, including American oak, ex-bourbon and sherry casks. One of Dictator’s signature aging techniques is the solera system, in which the barrels are stacked in a pyramid-like structure. The oldest rum is stored in the lower barrels, while the younger rum rests in the upper barrels. This gradual blending and aging process adds layers of flavor and character to the rum. Once matured, the rums are carefully blended to achieve the desired flavor profile and consistency.
